Sustainability

Our deep roots in the Pacific Northwest drive our enthusiasm for green building. We have completed many sustainable projects using various rating and certification systems, as well as those where project owners desired various sustainable benefits without adhering to any particular green-building classification. We have an accredited LEED professional who has worked diligently to achieve LEED certification for several projects, including Portland Public Schools’ Faubion PK-8 School, which was just the third school in the world to earn LEED Gold v.4 certification. For that project, 96 percent of construction waste was diverted from landfills, energy cost savings was nearly 40 percent and the landscape design reduced irrigation needs by 71 percent.

Several of our schools have also met the qualifications for Washington Sustainable Schools Protocol, where reducing waste, recycling and using local materials are emphasized. As a team, we are able to provide design assistance, feasibility studies, green building material options and availability, costing data, and project reporting and accountability for sustainability rating systems.
