Project Description

As Albany expands east of Interstate 5, so has the Greater Albany Public Schools with the construction of Meadow Ridge Elementary School.

In designing the 96,000-square-foot Meadow Ridge Elementary, Soderstrom Architects Principal Marlene Gillis said every decision was made to benefit the education of students. It features 21st century technology as well as places for children to sit and read.

Abundant windows allows natural light to flood into the two-story classroom wings. Roll-up garage doors lead from the cafeteria to outside play areas.

Two gyms, a commons area, media center, covered play structure and extra-wide teaching stairs are other highlights.

The school, which has 24 classrooms and capacity for at least 600 students, was made possible by voter approval of a $159 million bond measure in May 2017.

Eight first-graders from neighboring Clover Ridge Elementary School took part in the school’s groundbreaking in the spring of 2018, along with city and school officials and the project team.

The school was completed in April 2020, while students were engaged in distance learning due to the risk of coronavirus. It was scheduled to be opened in the fall of 2020.
