Project Description

A chapel with the look and feel of an old-world cathedral has become the centerpiece of the George Fox University campus. The 6,700-square-foot structure has high ceilings, exposed glu-lam beams and clear, vertical-grain fir interior trim.

The exterior has Western red cedar and brick veneer siding with a limestone water table band. The custom windows are metal frames with wood cladding, and the building has a standing seam metal roof.

The doors leading into the chapel and the vestibule are over 14 feet tall. Colorful murals grace the rear of the sanctuary walls. An organ with faux pipes sits at the front of the sanctuary.

The vestibule leads to a custom library with built-in shelves, two restrooms and a storage room. All of the mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems are concealed in the concrete basement or mezzanine. Fire sprinkler lines match the colors of the ceiling beams so they are camouflaged in the exposed ceiling.

The chapel seats more than 250 people, offering students and staff a place to contemplate their spiritual relationship with God.

Prior to the chapel’s construction, the college held worship services in an auditorium, so they are grateful for this new, dedicated space. Adding the chapel on the campus has been a longtime goal of George Fox University President Robin Baker.

The project was completed in the summer of 2024.

This is the 11th project Todd Construction has built for George Fox University. We also built the Hadlock Student CenterBrandt Hall and remodeled the Roberts Center for Nursing.
