Project Description

Every inch of the new Wy’east Middle School has been designed to help students learn and grow as individuals while collaborating with others and discovering the world around them.

That’s how Principal Kate Dewein saw the project that delivered the new, two-story 132,000 square-foot Wy’east Middle School.

Todd Construction was hired to build the new school on the same site as the existing middle school, as well as to remodel the existing gymnasium and perform associated sitework.

Highlights of the new building include a state-of-the-art culinary lab, performing arts area, a multimedia production room, a cutting-edge library with a 3-D printer and a large commons area. Science experiments and physical fitness classes will benefit from the landscaping and nature incorporated into the school’s design.

The new middle school was made possible when voters approved a district bond levy in 2018. The district held a virtual groundbreaking in November 2020 because of restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The school opened to students and staff in the fall of 2022 while construction continued to finish the athletic fields. At the ribbon-cutting, Principal Dewein said the new school is “the most beautiful middle school she’s ever seen.”

This is the seventh project Todd has built for Evergreen Public Schools. Construction Management firm R&C Management Group was instrumental in the the project’s success as well.
